GSTC Country Representatives

world mapGSTC is a global organization consisting mostly of volunteers supporting our mission and work. GSTC Country Representatives play a valuable role, serving as the “eyes and ears” and in many ways the voices of GSTC in their respective countries or regions.  On this website you can find information on how and to whom you might contact GSTC for a number of reasons, but Country Representatives can also help you better understand and engage with the GSTC.

GSTC began assigning Country Representatives in 2014, and welcome applications from any country not listed below. Scroll down below the list to learn how to apply.  The following individuals are authorized representatives of the GSTC for the geographic areas indicated:

br Brazil: Dr. D'Arcy Dornan

DArcy Dornan 140x160Dr. D’Arcy Dornan is the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Brazil Country Representative; he serves on the Research & Education Council of The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) and is the director of Tourism, Hospitality & Education Solutions. D’Arcy completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis, where he specialized in sustainable tourism development. He has taught, published and presented in tourism and hospitality and has been undergraduate/graduate program director at institutions in the U.S. and France. He has worked in the industry and has experience conducting consultancy projects with NGOs, destinations and others in the industry (hotels, trade associations, tour operators, travel agents, etc). He is currently based in Brazil.

ca Canada: Blake Rogers

Rogers Blake 140x160Originally from Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast, Blake started his career in tourism working as a server, a guide and a Marine Naturalist aboard a whale tour boat.  Blake traveled to South Korea in 2003 where he taught ESL for a year and explored Asia before earning a Bachelor of Education at the University of Maine in Fort Kent.  In 2007, Blake moved to the Yukon Territory - the most northwetern region of Canada.  While in the Yukon, Blake has taught in a rural community, worked as a communications consultant, and gained experience as a political advisor.  In his free time, Blake is an avid mountain biker, hiker and skier.  Blake has been the Executive Director of the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon since March 2012.  He has sat on numerous national boards and committees, including the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada.

cl ar Chile & Argentina: Jorge Moller

Jorge Moller 140x160Jorge Moller started with ecotourism in 1985 in the South of Chile, always aware o bringing an environmental education perspective into a tourism experience. Moller is the owner of Darwin's Trails Chile, a joint English-Cilean inbound Tour Operator with 20 years of experience providing authentic local experiences and local people contact for clients visiting Chile and Patagonia.  Jorge works as a consultant with indigenous communitieis such as the Mapuches, Likan Antai and Rapa-Nui to provide them tools for sustainable development.  As an active member of the Board of the Chilean Tourism Bureau, Moller promotes the ountry of Chile in a sustainable way so as to include all type of experiences around the multiple Chilean territories.  Jorge is also a teacher at the Universidad Catolica and a strategic partner of Fedetur (installing the Sustainable Distiction :S: in Hotels and Tour Operators coming up...).  In 2013, Moller participated in the GSTC Early Adopter Program in Chile and had the privilege to represent Chile's Lake Region at the GSTC AGM in Bonito, Brazil.  Jorge was instrumental in the cofoundin and development of the South American Sustainable Tourism Network (SAST Network), which cam einto existence after the GSTC AGM and the ESTC in Bonito, Brazil.  Jorge is also a trainer in Chile.

ec ec Ecuador & Colombia: Natalia Naranjo

Natalia Naranjo 140x160Natalia Naranjo is a Leader Consultant in CaLatam Consultancy. She is currently Country Representative in Colombia for the Canadian Executive Service Overseas CESO-SACO, and Regional Representative in Ecuador and Colombia for the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. She is an expert in sustainable tourism and community-based tourism and is representing the Guardagolfo Organization in the Urabá-Darién in the National Committee for Tourism and Peace in Colombia and internationally.Natalia has an undergraduate degree in finances and international relations from the Universidad Externado de Colombia, and a master´s degree in environment from the Universidad de Barcelona, Spain. She has more than 10 years of professional experience in tourism, local development and international relations. She has worked in Colombia, Perú, Ecuador and Spain with private and public sector, local communities and NGO's. She's a lecturer at the Universidad Externado de Colombia in tourism public policies and international analysis. She is a dynamic leader and has trained rural communities. She works in planification, administration, development and implementation of projects in tourism and local development.

gr Greece: Dr. Ioannis Pappas

Ioannis Pappas 140x160Dr. Ioannis Pappas, CEO of Green Evolution SA, is an experienced professional engineer, with over 25 years of work in several fields of science, focusing on sustainability and tourism, energy and environmental efficiency in infrastructure and buildings. He is also auditing and advising on standardization of companies and technological implementation of climate adaptation and mitigation methodologies. Dr. Pappas is Co-founder and a Board Member in a number of organizations (Sustainable Building Council of Greece, Hellenic Passive House Institute, Hellenic Start Up Association) as well as Co-founder of the Hellenic Ecotourism Society. He worked with the Joint Research Center-IE of European Commission and was a Greek representative as expert for ITL at UNFCCC.Dr. Pappas is auditing, consulting and training on all matters of interest to the tourism sector, as a Sustainable Tourism Manager by Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, Travelife Accredited Auditor for Green Tourism, Green Globe Accredited Auditor for Green Tourism, Auditor of the Greek Government on new Legislation for Stars Evaluation of Hotels and Vilas, Certified Energy Auditor in the Hellenic Republic, Accredited Trainer of Passive House Standard and Accredited Verifier of Airports GHG. He also has extensive experience on Project Management as Coordinator and/or Manager in more than 20 National & EU Research Projects, as Certified Auditor of ISO 9001 and 14001 Systems, European Energy Manager – EUREM and as a Trained Consultant of ISO 50001 Systems to mention the most important ones.

in India: CB (Ram) Ramkumar

CB Ramkumar 140x160CB Ramkumar has been an active GSTC member, serving formerly on the GSTC Election Committee and was influential in the adoption in 2014 by the government of India of national sustainable tourism standards which drew heavily from the GSTC Criteria. Ram is an author, speaker, trainer, consultant, an entrepreneur and an expert in applied sustainability. He developed a model for sustainable living when he built the first 100% eco resort – Our Native Village in Bangalore, India. Over the last decade, he has extended his expertise to sustainable living – sustainable food, sustainable health, sustainable service, marketing & branding. Ram had been an advertising and marketing professional for two decades. His long career in the advertising & marketing took him to global companies like Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather, Publicis and Standard Chartered Bank.As the GSTC Country Representative for India, Ram also serves as a liaison for other South Asian countries.

ie Ireland: Mary Mulvey

Mary Mulvey 140x160Ecotourism Ireland CEO Mary Mulvey has considerable senior management experience including the English Tourist Board, Bord Fáilte, Heritage Towns of Ireland and Irish Peatland Conservation Council. Mary is passionate about raising the profile of ecotourism at national and international levels with relevant government agencies, tourism bodies and stakeholders to ensure that ecotourism is on Ireland’s tourism agenda and ensuring a credible policy is developed and promoted. She is a tireless advocate on sustainability and finding a clear way to educate all on the subject and plan future tourism on these principles.The Greenbox Project was Ireland’s first Ecotourism Destination and was recognised by Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, Virgin Responsible Travel Awards and Green Apple awards.  The Ecotourism Ireland Label was globally recognised by Global Sustainable Tourism Council in 2012. In 2010 Mary was Commended in The Shine awards for Female Talent for her outstanding commitment to sustainability in Tourism. She has spoken at many international conferences.  Mary currently serves in a voluntary capacity on Board of The Glens Theatre, Manorhamilton Co Leitrim, Forestry Stewardship Council and Treasurer of Leave No Trace Ireland.

mx Mexico: Beatriz Barreal D.

Beatriz Barreal 140x160Beatriz Barreal Danel is currently the CEO - founder of Sustainable Riviera Maya. Since 2009 Beatriz has dedicated her time to the success of Sustainable Riviera Maya. She dedicated efforts for making Sustainable Tourism the primary engine for development, wealth and the engine of peace; preserving at the same time, natural treasures, local culture and society, as providing a linking platform that encourages seminars, congresses, encounters, processes, training and certifications, in sustainable strategies, solutions and actions in the Riviera Maya, aligned to international standards and knowledge. She is also responsible for developing marketing strategies, branding and communication in the corporate field. From 1989 to 2013 Beatriz was the founder of Beatriz Barreal Consultancy and from 1993-2000 the Founder and CEO of Neographika Inc. Additionally, from 1995-2009 Beatriz supported locally based NGO's in the State of Quintana Roo. She dedicated her time to support environmental conservation, empowering women and indigenous groups, and addressing issues concerning teenagers in risk categories, due to domestic conditions and health. For 11 years Beatriz was a Board Member for the AMIGOS DE SIAN KA'AN Assoc. During that time she developed corporate image, created a corporate communication strategy, and ran fundraising and communication campaigns.

Susan Cardenas 140x160Susan Santos Cárdenas specializes on sustainable tourism development and stewardship initiatives with Community Social Responsibility (CSR) at grassroots application. A savvy tourism professional and hotelier with more than 20 years’ experience managing sales, marketing, operations, events-M.I.C.E. and human resources development for start-ups and luxury hotel resorts, tour operators, travel agencies, lifestyle events and publications, in the Philippines, Singapore, Peru and Japan.She had been a keynote speaker & resource person in capacity building and training workshops for sustainable tourism development to include Ecotourism, Community-based & Agri-tourism promotion. She was a consultant and adviser for Local Government Units (LGUs) in the Philippines for grassroots communities with focus on organic farm tourism, environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, disaster preparedness, management and recovery.

She works like International speaker at and organiser of Sustainable Tourism events and forums. Specialised teaching of Tourism on the Elearning platform LeafMedia Alliance. She regularly works with the media, writing columns for some ecological and tourist publications, in addition to one-off projects with other national and international media. She was Founding partner of the several associations: Bidaietico, Association for the Promotion of Responsible Tourism Interpretur, Iber-American Forum for the Interpretation and Communication of Cultural Heritage in Tourism Arduratur, Basque Centre for Responsible Tourism.
