GSTC in Thailand: Sustainable Tourism Development towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria for Destination (GSTC-D)

A seminar on the theme ‘Sustainable Tourism Development towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria for Destination (GSTC-D)’ was delivered to the Thai Ministry of Tourism on 10 April 2018 in Bangkok.

The seminar was organized by the Graduate School of Tourism Management (GSTM), National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thailand.

Welcoming remarks were given by Mr. Pongpanu Svetarundra, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, who attended the seminar.

GSTC Guest Speakers were Dr. Mihee Kang, GSTC Program Director for Asia-Pacific, and Mr. Roi Ariel, GSTC General Manager. “The GSTC Criteria are designed to complement national or regional standards, not compete with them,” said Mr. Ariel. “in harmonizing national or regional standards with the GSTC Criteria we aggregate certified businesses to be part of the GSTC Market Access program.”

Dr.Worarak Sucher, Vice Dean for Administration, GSTM, NIDA, then moderated a Q&A session, before Dr. Therdchai Choibamroong, Dean, GSTM, NIDA, gave an overview of the project ‘Community-based Tourism Network Development Based on Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.’
