GSTC Keynotes the 2018 International Symposium of Tourism Development for Sustainability (Taiwan)

GSTC General Manager, Roi Ariel, and GSTC Asia-Pacific Regional Director, Dr. Mihee Kang, delivered the keynote speeches at the 2018 International Symposium of Tourism Development for Sustainability that took place at Nanhua University, Taiwan, on 29-30 August 2018.

The Symposium was organized by Taiwan Tourism Bureau Siraya National Scenic Area Administration and Nanhua University Sustainability Center, with welcoming remarks by Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communications, Dr. Michael C.Y. Chang.

“The GSTC Criteria is available on our website with translations to many languages, including Mandarin (Traditional Chinese),” said Mr. Roi Ariel, GSTC General Manager. “Destinations in their path to being certified as a sustainable destination should seek certification by GSTC Accredited Certification Bodies, currently EarthCheck and Green Destinations,” Mr. Ariel added.

“The negative impacts of tourism development can gradually destroy the environmental resources on which it depends, as uncontrolled conventional tourism puts enormous pressure on destinations and local environments through Depletion of natural resources, Pollution, and Physical impacts (degradation of ecosystems due to tourism infrastructure and activities),” explained Dr. Mihee Kang, GSTC Asia-Pacific Regional Director. “Unsustainable tourism destinations will lose tourism.”
