The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP) provides the knowledge and tools needed to help improve sustainability practices in travel and tourism. GSTC Certificate in Sustainable Tourism

GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism

By completing this 4-week online course, you will meet the training requirement towards earning the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.

Once you complete the course, you will have have the option to take the GSTC STTP Exam. The exam takes place online, and you will have 4 weeks after the course to submit it. If you pass the exam (75% and above passing mark is required), you will receive a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism by the GSTC.

The certificate demonstrates your knowledge of sustainable tourism standards and practices.

Dr. David Ermen, GSTC Trainer

Dr. David Ermen is a consultant and speaker, with a focus on destination management, service quality improvement, and sustainability. His experience in consulting, tourism development, and training spans Europe, the Middle East, Asia & Oceania. David researches and lectures on service management, sustainability and destination management related topics internationally.

In 2017, David was involved in writing the UNWTO’s “Journey to 2030” report for the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, focusing on the private sector’s contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Recent speaking topics have included sustainable destination management approaches and tourism’s recovery from the Covid crisis.

Ayako Ezaki is Co-Founder and Head of Knowledge Management & Communications at TrainingAid, an international tourism and training company offering online training courses and skills development opportunities for tourism industry professionals.

Having worked for over ten years in tourism professional training and education in the non-profit sector, Ayako specializes in content building, educational program design, and project planning. Randy Durband, GSTC CEO

Randy Durband 200Randy Durband has had two careers in travel and tourism – twenty-plus years in senior leadership positions at some of the finest U.S. tour operators, having served as President for Travcoa, INTRAV, and Clipper Cruise Lines, (brands within TUI Travel plc), plus Executive Vice President of Tauck World Discovery. Following that, in his second travel and tourism career, Randy advanced the work of Sustainable Tourism as an advisor, consultant, and speaker.

He brings his knowledge of the business of travel, his global network of travel professionals, and a passion for sustainability to support the GSTC and the general sustainable tourism movement. He has held several board positions and committee memberships in travel and tourism organizations, and is a frequent speaker on sustainable tourism issues.

Peter Richards

GSTC COVID-19 Derogation 2021-1 Peter has 20 years of professional experience in the Greater Mekong region, working at the crossroads of responsible tourism and community development. Peter has worked in the private and NGO sectors; with stakeholders including governments, tourism associations, tour operators and guides, local communities, hotels and restaurants.

Since 2015, Peter’s main role is a Consultant on Cultural Tourism Development and Market Access for the United Nations International Trade Center (ITC), Myanmar Inclusive Tourism project, in Kayah State and Tanintharyi Region, Southern Myanmar.

Ceillhe’s background is in Quality & Risk Management, Business Systems Analysis & Improvement, Event and Project Management. Dr. Susanne Etti, Environmental Impact Specialist, Intrepid Travel

Dr. Susanne Etti (she/her) is the Environmental Impact Specialist at Intrepid Travel. Susanne leads Intrepid’s climate action work, including carbon performance, reporting and transitioning the business to the low-carbon economy. Intrepid has been a carbon neutral travel company since 2010 and in 2018 became the largest certified travel B globally.

Susanne has extensive experience with over fifteen years in social and sustainability management. She previously worked in consultancy roles and supported clients in thought leadership, external disclosures, and building corporate sustainability programs.
