On 27-28 September 2017, the Colombian Commerce, Industry and Tourism Ministry has organized a two days event in the framework of the World Tourism Day. The two main topics of the agenda for this event were sustainable tourism and the Colombian strategy for tourism and peace, considering the historical moment the country is going through.

Mr. Luigi Cabrini, GSTC Chair, gave a talk about Sustainable Tourism and the GSTC. His one-hour talk was a good opportunity to recognize that Colombia is on the right path according to sustainable tourism standards.

Ms. Natalia Naranjo, GSTC Country Representative for Colombia, and Dr. Campo Elias Bernal, Executive Director of FEDEC (GSTC Member), were also present at the event.

Currently, in Colombia, all tourism operators have to comply with sustainable standards and there are eight tourism destinations certified as sustainable destinations according to national standards.

The Colombian Commerce, Industry and Tourism Ministry also signed an MOU with the GSTC to submit four of its sustainable tourism standards for the recognition process.
