The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program expands its offers of Online, Onsite and Customized Courses
November 17, 2016 – The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the leading global authority on quality sustainability standards for travel and tourism, now offers a Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP). The program provides practical insights and expert guidance to help tourism industry professionals implement sustainability best practices. Starting in 2017, the STTP training classes will include, in addition to the onsite training classes, a series of facilitated online training classes offered throughout the year.
Interactive Learning Experience
The STTP is designed to be an interactive training experience led by expert GSTC Trainers. The STTP online training classes combine the convenience of on-demand learning with the benefits of interactive people-focused learning to optimize results for busy tourism professionals. These scheduled courses are delivered over a 4-week period. Additionally, they include weekly lessons and activities with live sessions to help facilitate interaction and collaboration.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP) offers practical insights and effective steps to help you improve your sustainability practices.
“The GSTC sustainable tourism training programs are a critical part of the GSTC’s mission of increasing knowledge and practices among tourism industry stakeholders”, says Randy Durband, GSTC Chief Executive Officer.
Support of the UNEP 10 Year Framework Programme (10YFP)
The development of the STTP supports the GSTC’s ongoing initiatives supporting the UNEP 10 Year Framework Programme (10YFP) on Sustainable Tourism. Furthermore, the STTP is part of the 10YFP Portfolio. This entails that “the application of guidelines, tools and technical solutions to mitigate and prevent tourism impacts to the mainstream industry” is also mentioned in the course (Source: 10YFP Programme on Sustainable Tourism, Work Area 3).
In addition, in 2017, the GSTC aims to contribute, through the STTP, to the “capacity-building and education” goals of the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. GSTC aims to implement the recommended activity of “running capacity-building workshops / trainings on sustainable tourism” outlined by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
Offered through TrainingAid
The 4-week online training classes of the STTP will be offered quarterly, starting in April 2017. It will be delivered through the online training platform by TrainingAid, the STTP training program partner. Similarly to the regular onsite classes, the online option fulfills the training requirement towards earning the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism. Additionally, this allows STTP training participants the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of sustainable tourism standards and practices to the world.
