El Consejo Global de Turismo Sostenible (GSTC, por sus siglas en inglés) administra los Criterios GSTC, estándares mundiales para viajes y turismo sostenibles; además de actuar como organismo internacional de acreditación para la certificación en turismo sostenible.
El GSTC en 3 párrafos
El Consejo Global de Turismo Sostenible (GSTC) establece y gestiona los estándares mundiales sostenibles, conocidos como los Criterios GSTC. Hay 3 conjuntos de Criterios: Los Criterios para Destinos dirigidos a los responsables de las políticas públicas y los administradores de destino, los Criterios para la Industria de hoteles y operadores turísticos y y los Criterios MICE para Sedes, Organizadores de Eventos, Eventos y Exposiciones. Estos son los principios rectores y los requisitos mínimos que cualquier empresa o destino turístico debe aspirar a alcanzar para proteger y mantener los recursos naturales y culturales del mundo, garantizando al mismo tiempo que el turismo alcance su potencial como herramienta para la conservación y mitigación de la pobreza.
Los Criterios GSTC son la base del rol del GSTC como el Organismo de Acreditación global para Programas de Certificación que certifican hoteles / alojamientos, operadores turísticos y destinos que tienen políticas y prácticas sostenibles implementadas. El GSTC no certifica directamente ningún producto o servicio; pero acredita a aquellos que sí lo hacen.
El GSTC es una organización independiente y neutral, legalmente registrada en los EE. UU. Como una organización sin fines de lucro 501 (c) 3que representa una membresía diversa y global, que incluye agencias de las Naciones Unidas, ONG´s, gobiernos nacionales y provinciales, principales empresas de viajes, hoteles, operadores turísticos, particulares y comunidades: todos esforzándose por lograr las mejores prácticas en turismo sostenible.
¿Cuál es la diferencia entre Certificación y Acreditación?
El GSTC es un Organismo Internacional de Acreditación para la Certificación de Turismo Sostenible.
La Certificación se define como una evaluación voluntaria, de terceros, a través de una auditoría de una empresa turística o un destino para cumplir con un estándar. El GSTC NO realiza la certificación. Ese es el trabajo de muchos Organismos de Certificación en todo el mundo; nuestro trabajo es acreditar a aquellos que certifican. La Acreditación es una marca de calidad que el GSTC asigna a los Organismos de Certificación que eligen nuestro proceso independiente y neutral para verificar que ellos certifican a empresas, como hoteles u operadores turísticos, o destinos, de manera competente y neutral. Nosotros en GSTC examinamos en profundidad sus procesos de certificación para garantizar que emitan certificaciones basadas en el mérito y la neutralidad [Organismo de Certificación con GSTC Acreditación].
