The Co-Designing Institute for Polyphonic Society (CoDIPS) sponsored the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training for their team and local stakeholders in Miyajima, Hiroshima, Japan. The two-day GSTC Training in Japanese was held from the 20th to the 21st of January 2024.
The training was led by GSTC Trainer Kazuhiro Arai, Representative of Daisetsuzan Nature School, who shared their knowledge and expertise with practical examples and valuable insights.
Attendees had the chance to do an onsite visit to Itsukushima Shrine – a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site – a Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima (popularly known as Miyajima), best known for its «floating» torii, where they learned and spoke about the preservation of traditional buildings and the efforts of the Miyajima Registered Guide Liaison Group.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course provided participants with the essential knowledge and skills to champion sustainable tourism practices. It presented an excellent opportunity to delve into the GSTC Criteria the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel. The inclusion of global and local case studies enhanced the value of the training.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
