“This year’s World Tourism Day is celebrated in the context of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and is therefore at the core of the GSTC mission to promote and implement sustainable tourism worldwide. At a time where the value of tourism is recognized by the United Nations, but is also criticized for its excesses, the message that tourism needs to managed sustainably in order to achieve its benefits is more important than ever. We are proud of the increased interest in the GSTC Criteria and their multiple uses from public authorities, the tourism private sector, destinations and a wide range of tourism stakeholders. On the occasion of WTD 2017, the GSTC shares and supports the UNWTO call to take the pledge: Travel, Enjoy, Respect!”
