GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training for the Bahamas
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP) delivered, in partnership with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, a 2-week online course on the GSTC Criteria. The course was attended by tourism industry stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, representing destinations including: Nassau, North Andros, Central Andros, South Andros, Mangrove Cay, Harbour Island, Abaco, Eleuthera, San Salvador, Exuma, Long Island, Bimini, Cat Island, and Grand Bahama.
The course participants joined a series of live training sessions covering best practices in sustainability management, and insights into avoiding negative impacts and maximizing positive social, economic, cultural and environmental benefits for local communities.
In addition, the course featured a guest lecture by Ms Diannille Taylor‑Williams of St. Kitts’ Sustainable Destination Council (SDC), a cross-sector advisory body made up of representatives from the public and private sectors that promotes sustainable destination management, as well as a “virtual field visit” exercise analyzing challenges and opportunities for applying the GSTC Criteria in real-life situations.
