The JTB-sponsored Japanese GSTC Training for its employees concluded successfully at the JTB headquarters in Tokyo from September 26-28, 2023.

The course was led by Dr. Mihee Kang, GSTC Assurance Director along with the co-trainers Dr. Mami Futagami, Emeritus Professor at Meijo University, and Koji Miwa, Policy Researcher at Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

JTB GSTC Training

The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable tourism practices and offered an excellent opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the GSTC Criteria, and the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel. Global and local case studies explained by three different trainers added more value to the training. The training motivated JTB employees to learn more about GSTC and sustainability to implement in their business operations.

The group also had the opportunity to do a field exercise at Kawasaki King Skyfront Tokyu Rei Hotel, located near the Haneda airport.

“I was thrilled to see the enthusiastic engagement of JTB staff during the training session. It was great to hear they gained practical insights on incorporating sustainability into their roles. The purpose of the training was to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to apply sustainable practices in their daily lives and at work, and I am looking forward to hearing the participants’ stories of how they have applied the GSTC Criteria to their work. Lastly, I would like to thank the JTB leadership for providing this opportunity,” said Dr. Kang, GSTC Assurance Director.

Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
