GSTC MICE CriteriaGSTC’s first round of public consultation for the GSTC MICE Criteria, which took place from 15th June to 15th August 2023, has been completed. The key findings report is available here.

The GSTC MICE Criteria (covering Venues, Event Organizers, and Events/Exhibitions) aims to serve as the global sustainability standards for the MICE industry.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) formed a MICE Criteria Development Advisory Group* which comprises up to ten organizations from both the public and private sectors with a proven history in organizing and hosting MICE events.

More detailed information about the process development is available here and in the GSTC MICE Criteria Development Terms of Reference (TOR) document.

The GSTC MICE Criteria 2nd Public Consultation is now open

Individuals with an interest in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) activities, as well as professionals with expertise in this sector, are warmly invited to contribute with their insights during the second Public Consultation phase of the GSTC MICE Criteria. The consultation period is currently active and is scheduled to remain open until the 29th of December 2023.

The MICE Criteria are divided into three sub-sectors and within them, there are four pillars/sections: Section A (Demonstrate effective sustainable management); Section B (Maximize social and economic benefits to the local community and minimize negative impacts); Section C (Maximize benefits to cultural heritage and minimize negative impacts) and Section D (Maximize benefits to the environment and minimize negative impacts).

Please choose the sector you would like to make comments on the criteria and indicators. You are more than welcome to make your comments on all three sub-sectors.

If you would like to comment on one specific section that you feel most confident, please click on the links below.

We’d also appreciate your help in spreading the word. Please share this invitation with anyone you know who’s connected to MICE, tourism, and sustainability. This could include tour operators, travel agents, hotel owners, event planners, policymakers, academics, non-profits, community members, or even individual travelers.

Thank you in advance for your contributions to this important effort. Together, we can keep the conversation about sustainable tourism going and make meaningful changes in how we all engage in this industry, shaping the future of MICE for the better, together!
