Resorts World Sentosa has joined as a Member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)

Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is a premium lifestyle destination resort located on Singapore’s resort island of Sentosa. Spanning 49 hectares, RWS is home to world-class attractions including Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, Dolphin Island and Adventure Cove Waterpark. Complementing the adventure and adrenaline of its theme parks and attractions are six unique luxury hotels, the world-class Resorts World Convention Centre, and a casino. The integrated resort also offers world-class entertainment, from original resident productions to concerts. RWS is wholly owned by Genting Singapore, a company of the Genting Group.

Sustainability at Resorts World Sentosa

Sustainability has been at the core of RWS’ business since its inception, with the early adoption of best practices in ESG and a holistic approach to sustainable management. RWS is the first destination in the world certified to both the GSTC Destination Criteria and GSTC Industry Criteria for Hotels. Their commitment to sustainability is outlined in its 2030 Sustainability Master Plan, which encompasses 25 goals across 7 ESG focus areas to align its business to a low carbon and circular economy, create positive socio-economic impact and to better serve current and future generations.

Aligned with the Singapore Tourism Board and the local tourism industry’s long-term sustainability plans, RWS contributed sector expertise in collaboration with key organizations and Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) on the Singapore Hotel Sustainability Roadmap, and the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) on the Singapore MICE Sustainability Roadmap.

“We see sustainable tourism as the only way forward for this industry. Our vision is to become a global leader in sustainable tourism. Ecosystem partnerships such as these, with GSTC, are vital to help accelerate positive impact, by leveraging complementary strengths across the partners,” said Loh Su Kim, Senior Vice President, Attractions and Sustainability, RWS.

GSTC Welcomes Resorts World Sentosa

“Resorts World Sentosa has taken a holistic and systematic approach to sustainable development, applying both the GSTC Destinations Criteria and the GSTC Industry Criteria for Hotels,” said Randy Durband, GSTC CEO. “We are delighted to welcome them to our global network as a GSTC member.”

GSTC encourages destinations pursuing sustainability practices in tourism to join as GSTC members. Apply the GSTC Destination Criteria and support local businesses to apply the GSTC Industry Criteria. Destinations can eventually aim for achieving certification by a GSTC-Accredited Certification Body as a sustainable tourist destination.
